Hi Everyone,
I am happy to say that I am teaching this entire week with Ms. Hawkins' support! I have been truly enjoying my experience with our class, and look forward to this week.
Language: We kicked off out Poetry unit with a song and lyrics focusing on rhyming; we started our own rhyming poems in groups at the end of last week, and will be continuing to work on those this week. The groups will have a chance to show off their rhyming skills and teamwork through poetry presentations towards the end of this week! Accompanying the group poems, students will be writing their own personal poems incorporating some of the other poetic devices we will learn over the course of the unit.
Math: Fractions have proven to be a bit of a challenge for us; we started fractions just a little over a week ago, but are continuing to have some problems. We are going to hammer away at it so that everyone is up to speed. Over the course of this week we will be taking up the corrected math test that was for homework, as well as the homework sheet that was assigned on Friday. We will be doing some in class work together as a group so that everyone's understanding is ensured, and we can move on comfortably to decimals.
Social Studies: We are continuing our unit on Ancient Civilizations with our focs on the Aztecs. Tomorrow we are going to write out the fantastic stories on Cortes and Moctezuma that everyone has been so enthusiastically writing on old-fashioned paper we are going to make in class together. Aside from our interesting read alouds, we will be doing some more work on the Aztecs, and hopefully even have the chance to learn an Aztec dance together!
Science: We just started our unit on Simple Machines, and will be looking at forces as well as forces. Please note that for homework the students are to investigate simple machines that they would find and perhaps use at home on a typical day. They are asked to list at least 10-15, and what to describe what they are used for.

1. What We Eat (Food Journal). Due Thursday
2. Science:List 10-15 simple machines that you use in a typical day at home. Describe what they are used for. Due Thursday.
3. Social Studies: Word Scramble and definitions. Due Thursday.
4. Math Test: Corrections. Due TOMORROW.
Please note that report cards went home today. Ms. Hawkins asked me to remind parents that only those who receive a written request for an interview are to come in for Parent/Teacher Interviews.
