Fractions

A handful of students still seem to be struggling with improper fractions and mixed numbers. There are numerous sites that you can visit for extra help. I would start with The Math Page. http://www.themathpage.com/ARITH/add-fractions-subtract-fractions-1.htm This site walks you through the whole process of adding mixed fractions. The Math is Fun site is also worth a visit for the basics.

Helping your child with math at home will definitely reinforce what we are working on in school. Even 10 minutes of one-on-one math help and 10 minutes of reading to your child or having them read to you is important. We will soon be working on decimals and fractions, so you may want to think ahead about what you can do at home to help.

I was at My Gifted Child (St. Clair E. between O'Connor and Victoria Park) on Friday and I bought more fractions resources for the class some of which I can reproduce for students who are struggling. There are numerous workbooks available (most in the $2.99-$6.99 range). Most of these books have answer keys in the back, so children can check their own work.
