Bon chance B.M. We'll miss you!
Hello there,
This week we say goodbye to two special people: Bradley and Miss D. Bradley's family is moving east and Miss D. will be completing her twice weekly placement in our class. We will miss you both. Good luck at your new school, Bradley!
Here's what we're up to this week:
Language: We will be working on dictionary skills as students edit their recounts of Andy Warhol's life. We will also continue reading and writing poetry. In word study, we're working on contractions. Students will circulate through contraction centres.
Math: Miss Torres, our current student teacher has been doing a swell job teaching our 2s and 3s about money. We are really pleased to see how excited students are about money. Who knew? Continue showing your child money and discussing the various combinations of coins and bills that can add up to $1.00 (for the 2s) and $10.00 (for the 3s).
Science: Miss Lowen continues working with the 3s on stability. Students apparently tested bridges out today. Terrific! The 2s are consolidating their knowledge of liquids and solids. It's great to see how much they remember from our air and water unit back in the fall.
Homework:
- Both grades have new spelling words. If the words are too difficult to remember in three days, aim to work on the first five words from the list and we can do the following five next week.
- Both grades should write at least one journal entry, though they can write more if they are up for the challenge.
- There are math problems for both grades.
- Grade 2s have a short Science experiment to conduct using salt water.
- Grade 3s have a Social Studies reading passage with follow up questions.
I checked in with some Grade 2s today about the workload and they said, "It's easy." If this homework is taking more than 20 minutes a night for the Grade 2s and more than 30 minutes a night for the Grade 3s, I am happy to squeeze in some finishing up time in class on Thursday. I'm pushing students to budget time and work efficiently, but homework shouldn't become a millstone either, so do keep me posted.
