This week has been a bit herky jerky, to use the technical term. After being away on Monday, I returned to a day of non-stop portrait photography. The kids had fun, but we weren't able to get as much done as I had planned. Today, we worked a lot on reading comprehension and area and perimeter in math. Perimeter is not part of the grade 1 curriculum, but the 1s sat in on the lesson and informed me that it's actually pretty easy. At home, you can look at simple objects and talk about its perimeter using non-standard units of measurement: e.g. "How many forks would it take to wrap around the outside of a tray?"
