Welcome to our newest student, Panos. We now have 20 students in our class. Thank you for those who sent in money for the Terry Fox run last Thursday. It was a big success. It's still not too late to donate money towards cancer research either by sending in cash or by making an online donation. Thanks to Mr. Church for organizing the event.
We still need more 2 litre clear pop bottles and shoe box lids. Please keep them coming.
Here's what we're working on this week:
Language: We will slowly begin our guided reading groups now that assessments are all complete. I hope to have daily book bags coming home starting this week. Mondays are always a little hectic with homework bags going home, so the book bags may not come home tomorrow. We continue working on text connections as part of reading comprehension. We are also still journaling about the main ideas in each chapter of Roald Dahl's autobiography Boy.
In writing, we will return to our own autobiographies. We will continue working on vowels and compound words.
In media literacy, we will continue analyzing print advertisement, taking a close look at the techniques used by advertisers to make us want to buy products. This is part of critical literacy.
Math: We will be wrapping up geometry and patterning over the next week or two, depending on readiness. Our next unit will be on place value and greater than, less than, equal to.
Science: We dissected cherry tomatoes last Friday. The grade 3s are looking at seeds and the 2s are examining the role of water inside plants and fruit. This week, we will continue investigating the way air and water interact with plants in ways that help or hinder growth.
Social Studies: Grade 2s are looking at communities and 3s are investigating urban and rural communities. This week, we're investigating the kinds of jobs people have in our urban/suburban community.
