Hello there,
Please note that I am not sending home the usual homework package this week. We will be using last week's math homework for an in-class graphing activity. Instead, I am sending home assorted worksheets from the past couple of weeks that either need correcting or completing. Please help your child catch up. We will take up the work in class together when they are returned.
Our spelling program will change slightly until the beginning of the new year. For the next two or three weeks, the usual spelling homework sheets will not come home. Instead, we will be working on high-frequency words that are still being misspelled.
Students will now be writing in their agendas each Friday and I will sign them. The purpose is to have students begin reflecting on their own strengths and areas of need both in terms of their school work and social skills/character education. It will also give them another opportunity to do some writing in class.
Please remember that there is no school this Friday.
Here's what we're working on this week:
Language: We will continue working on Procedural Writing. We will also complete writing about the story of Chanukah. We will review antonyms for an antonym booklet. In Reading, students will continue reading their book about endangered species and make notes about their findings. We are learning about text features such as headings and subheadings. This links to our Science unit on animals.
Math: We are wrapping up graphing and will move into subtraction of double digit numbers. We will also begin learning about temperature.
Social Studies: Chanukah (see Language).
Science: Animals (see Language).
