Hurrah for litterless lunches and snacks!
Hello there,Here's what we're working on this week:
Language: In Reading, new guided reading groups will begin. Students will read with classmates in small groups matched to their reading abilities to sharpen decoding and comprehension skills.
In Writing, students will continue their biographies of Louis Braille and Terry Fox as part of retelling. Students will also continue working on their reflections on homelessness.
In Math, we are working on different areas within Number Sense and Numeration: ordinal numbers (first, second, third, etc.), place value (using base ten blocks), and addition and subtraction using a number line.
In Science, we are continuing our investigation of simple machines. Ask your child what they've already learned.
In Social Studies, we will move from legends on maps, to a close up look at different communities in Toronto. We will also be looking at Hinduism and the Diwali festival as part of Celebrations and Traditions.
Please note that book bags and reading logs will be coming home this week. Please make sure the book bag and reading log come back with your child each day. This way your child can either replace the book if he or she is finished, or they can read the book during independent reading if it is a longer book.
This week's homework includes: spelling, math, and a science assignment that connects to a short oral presentation this Friday. Instructions will be coming home.
