Your children have been learning so much in math lately, it boggles the mind. We've been estimating, skip counting by 2s, 5s, and 10s, adding and subtracting using number lines, discussing place value as it relates to numbers on the calendar, problem solving, AND we've been learning about the symbols for greater than and less than.
Students have memorized the symbol < or > by thinking of an alligator's mouth. The alligator's mouth is always opened at the greater amount, so we've been thinking of the sideways V as an alligator's mouth. It seems to be working.
