Dear Families:
I can't believe how much we've accomplished since the school year started. We are truly a classroom based on cooperative learning this year. Children are understanding key concepts in math, language, social studies, and science through problem solving and hands-on activities. At the bottom of the page, you will see pictures from our morning word centres and the afternoon curriculum-based centres. We are also learning about "small moment" personal narratives and many students have already started writing about moments in their lives.
Here's what we're working on this week:
Language: Reading and Writing - How do good writers stretch out a scene and add colour and detail to their writing? We will take a close look at how this is done in two different texts - A Chair for my Mother and The Snow Day. Students will revisit their personal narrative plans and consider how they can bring a scene to life with descriptive words.
Math: Students are really cruising along in Patterning. Last week, we worked on problem solving involving number patterns. Students learned more about attributes of patterns and learned how to organize data from a pattern by making a t-chart. We will continue working on patterning this week.
Social Studies: We will continue with mapping this week by looking at the map of Canada, Ontario, and if time, Toronto.
Science: Strong Structures - How can we make a structure balance so that it won't tip over.
Homework information will come home in your child's homework bag. Thanks for ensuring your child completed his/her homework and that it was returned on Friday. Awesome.
